Dr. Thomas Noone

Dr Noone, (Assistant Professor in General Nursing, Trinity College Dublin) qualified as general nurse (RGN) at University Hospital Galway and graduated with Honours. He completed Post Registration Psychiatric Nursing (RPN) at the South Eastern Regional Psychiatric Nursing School at St Oterans Hospital Waterford with Honours. Dr Noone worked as a staff nurse in medical/surgical nursing and ICU at UHG and as a staff nurse at the Haematology/Oncology and National Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at St James's hospital,Dublin. He also worked as a staff nurse and Assistant Nurse Tutor at St Patrick's hospital, Dublin. He completed his BNS RNT with Honours at the Department of Nursing Studies, UCD Dublin, and was appointed Nurse Tutor at St James's hospital where he taught the RGN registration course for over ten years. He was also Educational Facilitator for the Post Graduate Diploma in Peri-operative nursing at St James's Hospital & Trinity College Dublin. Dr Noone completed a Master in Medical Science in Nursing with Honours at UCD Dublin and was the first male nurse in the Republic of Ireland to obtain a Masters Degree in Nursing. He received an MA from Trinity College Dublin and completed a PhD in Education at the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. He also earned a Diploma in human anatomy and a Diploma in applied physiology form the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Dr Noone was appointed course coordinator in 2001 for the Diploma in Nursing in Trinity College Dublin and across six affiliated Health Service Providers.He has also acted as course coordinator for the undergraduate B.Sc.(Hons)degree course in nursing and he has also co-ordinated courses at M.Sc. level. He is an assessor for postgraduate students undertaking the M.Sc. in Clinical Health Science Education. Dr Noone has extensive experience in education, administration and research supervision at both undergraduate and post-graduate level and he has presented at conferences both nationally and internationally. He lectures in pain management, neurological nursing, clinical nursing skills and clinical health science education.
