To ensure this is being achieved a lecturer /practitioner with associated responsibilities will visit participants with their preceptors/mentors in their clinical practice area.

The clinical component of the programme is co-ordinated by a member of the programme team and facilitated by a designated Medical Practitioner and/or Advanced Midwife Practitioner/mentor who will provide supervision, support and learning opportunities, including opportunities to practice under supervision to gain the required competencies and clinical competence to practice at an advanced level in nursing in their specific practice setting. Opportunities for observations and supervision in practice areas relevant to the student specific learning outcomes are also sought and arranged by the course co-ordinator. The preceptor / mentor is expected to provide the student with supervision, support and learning opportunities over the duration of the programme with a specific requirement of 500 hours of direct supervision of advanced clinical practice.

Central to the midwife advanced practice competencies the successful completion is the verification of 500 supervised hours with their preceptor/mentor.
