International recognition of TCD Intellectual Disability Nursing student awarded a place with the Clinton Global Initiative University 2020.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery are delighted to congratulate Ms. Niamh Donohoe, a senior sophister nursing student in intellectual disability nursing on her success in being accepted to the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI) leadership development program.
School Awards 2019
Yesterday was an exciting day the School of Nursing and Midwifery School Awards 2019 Ceremony where students across the many undergraduate and postgraduate programmes received special School prizes. Pictured is Ms Cristina Cocchiaro who is a Midwife at the Rotunda Hospital Dublin, one of the School’s linked Health Service Providers, where undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery students develop their competencies under the guidance and supervision of midwives such as Cristina.

What we wish we had known….., How Women can thrive after motherhood
A new online resource to help women look after their own health and wellbeing after childbirth. ’We developed this course because mothers told us that following childbirth, they struggle to find reliable and trustworthy information about their own health postpartum. The course was developed for and WITH mothers on the information that ’they wish they had known’. The course delivers evidence-based content from health experts and shares real women’s stories and experiences of motherhood and postpartum health.

European Workshop and Summit on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
Food for thought at the opening of the European Society of Cardiology Cardiovascular Disease Prevention which aims to explore strategies to better implement cardiac guidelines. Dr Gabrielle McKee from the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin presented the work of the ESC prevention working group which has identified that still over 50% of high risk cardiac patients are not meeting lipid, hypertension or physical activity guidelines.

Addiction Debates by Professor Catherine Comiskey
Addiction Debates explores the tumultuous landscape of addiction research, policy and practice. Covering all the hot topics of the day in a balanced and informative manner, Comiskey provides international perspectives on each topic, stimulating debate and discussion via the different approaches taken globally.

School of Nursing & Midwifery Medal
From 2018 graduates of the School of Nursing & Midwifery received their medal at their conferring ceremony. Alumni who have graduated prior to 2018 can apply to receive their medal by completing our online application form. The badge aims to enhance the School’s identity in terms of nursing and midwifery education and research, at home and abroad, through it being worn by alumni on their professional nursing and midwifery uniforms. Applications for our 12 Month Higher Diploma Children’s Nursing Education Programme is now Open
We are delighted to open applications for the Higher Diploma in Children’s Nursing Course in collaboration with Children’s Health Ireland (CHI). Application deadline is 28th February 2020.

JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Programme
The JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Programme will take place in the School of Nursing & Midwifery, D'Olier Street from the 8th to 12th June 2020. The programme enables participants to learn how to conduct robust systematic reviews of different evidence types in order to provide the strongest possible evidence to inform decision making or clinical guidelines in healthcare. There are fifteen places available for which priority will be given to staff from health service providers who are collaborating with TCPHI. Register for your place via Eventbrite (link in title) before 31 October 2019.

Spotlight on Research - Dr Margarita Corry’s review of education and psychosocial support telephone interventions for informal caregivers just out!
Dr Corry’s review is about Telephone interventions, delivered by healthcare professionals, for providing education and psychosocial support for informal caregivers of adults with diagnosed illnesses’, and found that small benefits may exist for telephone support interventions over usual care on some caregiver outcomes (e.g. anxiety and preparedness to care at the end of intervention), but not on quality of life or burden.

New Nursing Collaborative Research Initiative with St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services
Introducing the new nursing collaborative research initiative between St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services and the Trinity Centre for Practice and Healthcare Innovation. The first Steering Committee Meeting took place on Wednesday 26th June. A Different Kind of Voice: The EOLAS Participatory Photography Project
