Overview

The aim of the M.Sc. in Nursing – Child Health and Wellbeing is to provide a solid academic base to the understanding and development of nursing practice in the area of child health and illness. The strand will strengthen and develop the knowledge, skills and competencies and attitudes if the participants, thus enabling them to achieve their highest potential in the personal, professional and practice arena of children’s health. The strand will provide advanced study in research methods, the theoretical and practical aspects of management, clinical practice and leadership and child health perspectives as well as contemporary issues in child health and wellbeing.

Structure & Delivery

This fulltime taught M.Sc. in Nursing – Child Health and Wellbeing is a one year theory programme comprising of six modules and a dissertation. Students may be permitted to exit after successful completion of six modules with a Postgraduate Diploma or proceed to M.Sc. on completion of their dissertation. Lectures usually start in mid- September each year and the course runs for one calendar year.

Small classes facilitate the opportunity for students to engage in interactive lectures, discussions and debate. Focusing on the development of critical analysis, reflection, research and presentation skills helps students advance their knowledge of practice and research applied to their area of nursing. Students form small study groups to provide mutual peer support and arenas for discussion and debate. Students can attend our annual interdisciplinary research conference, regular research days, seminars, data analysis clinics and learn about the latest research and practice developments from international and national experts.

Entry Requirement

International applicants must:

  • Be registered as a professional nurse who is entitled to practise as a qualified or registered nurse in their own country.
  • Hold an honors degree in nursing or a related discipline or equivalent professional and academic qualification.
  • Or otherwise satisfy the course committee that they have the ability to complete and benefit from the course.
  • For all applicants whose first language is not English meet language requirements (see below).

All applicants whose first language is not English and who have not been educated through the medium of English must present one of the following qualifications in the English language:
