Mental Health, Mental Distress and Mental Illness

The aim of this research theme is to support practice in mental health care that is based on best evidence and promotes a culture of partnership and inclusiveness. Research within this overall theme identifies and examines factors which influence mental health, explores experiences of mental distress and illness and identifies and evaluates strategies used to promote mental health and personal recovery. Using a variety of methodologies, there is a focus on high quality, ethical, and progressive research from study development to translation. Central to this is the involvement of those to whom research findings should be most relevant; mental health service users and their families. Consequently, the aim is to produce research which is accessible and relevant to users of mental health services and their families, in addition to those working in the mental health services and those developing mental health policy and driving change in service delivery.
