The School of Nursing and Midwifery were delighted to welcome Professor Sir Graham Thornicroft who delivered a public lecture entitled Full disclosure: should I open up about my mental health difficulties? on the 29th of November 2018. Sir Thornicroft is a Professor of Community Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neuroscience Kings College London and a Consultant Psychiatrist at South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The public lecture was delivered in partnership with See Change, Ireland’s national organisation dedicated to ending mental health stigma. Professor Thornicroft acknowledged the importance of talking about mental health difficulties but advised individuals to make a considered decision about disclosing in terms of who they tell and what they say. On Friday 30th November, as part of his visit, Professor Thornicroft also delivered a master class on Implementation Science within the mental health context with was attended by researchers and academics from the Faculty of Health Sciences. The event was funded by the Visiting Professors Fund.
